In 2023, NHS England announced that it was establishing region gender identity services for children and young people and as a result were bringing the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) based at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust to a managed close.

Following a period of public consultation, NHS England published a new interim service specification which sets out how care will be provided to children and young people, and their families, who express gender incongruence and who are likely to benefit from clinical support.

This replaces the previous service specification that was in place for the GIDS service. You can download the 2016 specification via the link below.
